Affordable Fall Decor Color Schemes for Every Room

Please support this site by sharing!

Today, I’m sharing three variations of inexpensive fall decor color schemes for every room. I’ve also added a pinch of DIY decor in every space because I can’t resist a good craft project.

This is an exciting week at First Day of Home because I’m partnering with some talented blogging friends for the Fall in Love with Texas tour. Special thanks goes to the lovely Katie from Let’s Add Sprinkles who coordinated this tour. Every day, we’re bringing you a taste of fall decor, crafts, food and traditions!

I hope you’ll stick around to visit the rest of my Texas blogger friends, too! See the full schedule at the end of this post.

Welcome to First Day of Home!

Before we explore my three fall color schemes, let’s make a quick stop on the front porch. For the last two years, I have slowly added to my front entry display. This fall wreath provided the foundation for my porch color palette.

I’ll be honest–I’ve resisted the temptation to buy bales of hay for a few years now. I imagined it would invite a variety of pests and shed like a Chow Chow. However, I’ve since decided that I’m willing to get messy in the name of cute seasonal decor. With my two bales, I had plenty of levels to display real pumpkins.

My sweet hubby often falls prey to my crafting visions. Luckily, he owns all of the right workshop equipment to cut wood to my specifications! We created the “Harvest” sign above with a piece of pine, pre-cut letters and our vast inventory of leftover paint.

You can view another more recent version of this porch decor in my Fall Front Porch Ideas.

#1: The Breakfast Room – A Peach and Green Fall Color Scheme

The breakfast room is our regular dining spot as a family. When we bought the house, we loved the green wall color so much that we stuck with it.

For the fall, I decided to add hues of peach and orange to the green foundation. I wish I could say that was the plan all along, but the plaid table runner and hurricane candle holders from Pier 1 sealed the deal.

To add contrast to the woven chargers and blonde wood, I set out some of our wedding china and leaf napkin rings.

My mother gave us this soup tureen as a gift. Every fall, I make my favorite butternut squash soup recipe, and I can’t wait to fill this bowl with some butternut goodness this year. Send me an e-mail or comment below if you’d like my tried and true recipe!

For a little extra DIY touch, I designed the “Harvest” pennant banner below. I used fall scrapbook paper with patterns complementing my peach and green color scheme.

You can download free files to make your own banner in this post.

Speaking of DIY, I love the photo below because it highlights two woodworking projects made by my husband’s late mother and grandfather. The wooden mirror and wooden wine rack (in the reflection) are pieces we cherish greatly.

#2: The Living Room – Aqua and Orange Color Scheme

How in the world do you choose a fall color scheme starting with aqua? Fortunately, Home Goods set me up with just the right throw pillows and pumpkins to tie everything together.

Because the area rug has greyish-blue tones, I wanted to bring in other accents that played nicely together.

I also love mixing textures like woven baskets, metallics, and embroidery. The basket by the couch doubles as a catch-all for the kids’ toys, too!

The glass and ceramic pumpkins on our coffee table also came from Home Goods. Maybe I should just call it “First Day of Home Goods”?

In case you missed it, I recently posted tutorials on how to paint foam pumpkins and how to decoupage pumpkins. You can see my creations sitting in the wooden bucket by the fireplace below.

I gave the decor a little update in my recent Fall Home Tour if you want to see how you can update a room with a few small changes.

#3: The Formal Dining Room – Traditional Orange and Yellow Color Scheme

Our last stop is the formal dining room which features a traditional fall decor color scheme of orange and yellow.

I found these wreaths last year at a local shop and doctored them a bit by adding burlap and orange ribbons.

For several months now, I’ve had taper candle fever, but it took me a while to find candleholders I liked. These gold-toned beauties did just the trick with the traditional fall color scheme in the room.

Last year, I purchased the metal pumpkin below and decided to create my own faux floral centerpiece rather than use it as a candle holder, as intended.

If you want to see this table with a completely different fall look, check out my neutral DIY fall centerpiece post.

For a little added touch, I created place card holders with sweet Thanksgiving phrases. Visit my DIY pumpkin place card holder tutorial for the full details and a bonus printable.

    1. Hi Magge! Thanks so much! I wish I could give you the exact link to buy them, but they were a Home Goods purchase last year. If you have a store nearby, I would check there again. I also found some really similar pillows online here: https://www.sierra.com. (Search under home decor.) Good luck!

That soup tureen is GORGEOUS and I love your little pumpkin placecard holders too. So much inspiration!

    1. Oh, isn’t Home Goods such a jackpot for fall decor?! It’s hard to stay disciplined when I’m in there this time of year. I wanted to find a source for the soup tureen but can’t find it ANYWHERE. It’s one of my favorite pieces, though, and it’s special because my mom gave it to me. Thank you so much for stopping by and sharing some sweet words with me today. Best wishes, Crissy

  7. Hi Crissy! I LOVE how your home is decorated… sigh! This year I am more into traditional reds and oranges for fall, too. I’m having house fever right now as we begin looking at homes in the Dallas area. Still looking in Sanger/Denton but also down in Allen/McKinney, which are closer to Hubby’s work. With that, I am happily enjoying your home and all its lovely fall decor. Thank you for your lovely thoughts on yesterday’s post. I appreciate it!

Tapers are lovely, too, and add so much elegance. Love your matching tall hutches in the dining room!
Happy to be part of the Fall In Love With Texas tour with you,
    Barb 🙂

    1. Hello, Dear Barb! Thank you for leaving such thoughtful and kind comments. It really means a lot to me! Good luck in your home search! Thanks for stopping by! I have enjoyed getting to know you in our group of Texas bloggers. 🙂

    1. Thanks, Jennifer! Did my husband put you up to asking that question? 😂 I generally have a box that I store up high in my closet, and I pack and unpack my decor as the seasons change. A little packing paper and bubble wrap usually work well for me.

  8. Beautiful job and lots of creative ideas here! Every nook and cranny is perfectly fall. I used aqua and orange this year in Navasota! It’s so bright and cheery, right?! Enjoyed hopping with you. Happy Fall!

I too love to pair aqua in my fall decor. Love the harvest sign!

    1. Ha ha! Thanks, Laura! I love it when I can make someone laugh. Glad you liked the sign. I’m planning to make it reversible and use the other side for Christmas!

  10. I love the different color schemes you shared. In a similar way, I tend to decorate with bold bright colors outdoors while using pastels and neutrals with pops of color indoors. Happy to be touring with you! Blessings, Cecilia @My Thrift Store Addiction

  12. Crissy, your home is beautiful! I love what you’ve done in your family room and dining room. Yes those tapers are perfect on the table and the way you added foliage to the pumpkins is pretty too. Love the paint color in your dining room!

    1. Hi, Stacey! You’re so sweet. Thank you! I can’t take credit for the paint color. The prior owners put that in. I believe it’s Benjamin Moore’s Charcoal Slate.
