Learn how to make a cute Valentines Day flower pot with colorful hearts that look like conversation candy. This easy craft makes a great DIY gift for teachers, parents, or grandparents.Fill this terracotta pot with your choice of plant, cookies, or candy for the perfect Valentine's Day treat.
If desired, spray the inside and outside of the terracotta pot and saucer with Clay Pot sealer. Wait 24 hours before painting.
Using a Cricut machine, cut a series of small hearts (about a 1/2-inch in size for a 4-inch pot) onto removable vinyl. The color of vinyl doesn't matter, but you should use a dark color that will show through the top coat of paint, if possible.
As an alternative, you can use heart stickers for this step.
Paint colored spots on the outside of the flower pot, varying the color pattern. Each spot should roughly match the size of the sticker or Cricut decal that will cover it.
Let the paint dry for 1-2 hours (or per the manufacturer's instructions). You can also use a heat gun to speed up the drying process.
Once the paint has dried, apply a top coat of white paint all over the outside of the flower pot. You can also paint the inside of the saucer white to match. Wait 1-2 hours before applying additional coats of paint as needed.
Once the paint has dried, carefully remove the stickers to reveal the color underneath. You can use a weeding tool for this step if needed.
Add candies, cookies, plants, or any desired treat inside your flower pot for the perfect gift.
Notes
For a simpler version of this project, first paint the entire pot white. Then, apply colored heart-shaped stickers or vinyl hearts cut with Cricut. You can seal the project with Mod Podge Outdoor to make it more weather-resistant if desired.
