Cricut Bookmarks – Easy Tutorial

The beautiful thing about this Cricut project is that you can make it with any Cricut machine! I used both my Cricut Maker 3 and Cricut Joy machine with ease.

To get started, you’ll need the following supplies and the bookmark brushstroke file (see below).

*You can also make this project with any compatible cutting machine or a hybrid laser machine like the xTool M1 or xTool M1 Ultra.

Uploading the SVG files in Cricut Design Space

This project involves two parts: the background brushstroke and the personalized name. Both are created with vinyl, so you can choose any color combination you like.

After downloading the SVG file, you’ll Upload the design in Cricut Design Space. Only the brushstrokes are included in my SVG bundle, so you can add any text you like in the software.

If necessary, ungroup the brushstrokes to work with each design individually. Then you can layer on text to personalize each design.

I chose the font Gabelisa to personalize my bookmarks. The font is so feminine and has the cutest heart details.

Tip: Don’t forget to Weld script fonts to ensure they cut as one word.

To weld your letters, select the Combine menu (bottom right) and choose Weld. If you don’t weld the letters, the machine will cut each letter individually. (You can skip this step if you plan to use a non-script font.)

Cutting the Vinyl

If using a smaller machine like the Cricut Joy, rotate your designs to fit on the cutting mat, as shown below.

Weeding the Vinyl

Once you have your vinyl pieces, remove any excess vinyl with a weeding tool.

Assembling the Bookmarks

You can place both the brushstroke and name on the same side of the bookmark or you can place the brushstroke on the back of the bookmark and the name on the front.

Assembling a Cricut bookmark by applying vinyl to an acrylic bookmark blank.
  1. Start by removing the protective film on both sides of the acrylic bookmark.
  2. Peel and apply the brushstroke vinyl to one side of the bookmark.
  3. Use transfer tape to “pick up” the vinyl lettering first. Then apply the name to the unused side of the bookmark or layer it on top of the brushstroke (your choice).
  4. Peel back the transfer tape.

Adding a tassel or ribbon

For a finishing touch, add a color-coordinated tassel to your bookmark, or use a pretty ribbon for a more boho-chic vibe.

If you have leftover bookmarks, try making these pressed flower bookmarks next!
