Hi Friends! I’m Crissy, and I’m jazzed you’re here! I launched this blog as a way to share my passion for arts, crafts and DIY projects. Really, it’s a way to rationalize the piles of crafting tools, machines and doo-dads now cluttering our house. It was all in the name of research!
As a mom of twin pre-schoolers, I also find it therapeutic to share the laughs and lessons of parenthood with all of you. After all, my artsy projects are only a small fraction of this crazy life I live.
When I left my corporate gig to stay home with my kids, I struggled with fears of losing my professional identity. My main goal was to raise two respectable and kind boys, but I also needed an outlet that would give me intellectual stimulation.
I wanted purpose and fulfillment, beyond the roles I played for others. I needed to BE something besides Mommy! (Maybe there was a hint of mid-life crisis baked in there, too.)
My Turning Point
I figured that reconnecting with my creative side would enable me to find my best self. So I began acquiring new hobbies: sewing, stenciling, cooking, gardening, painting…you name it!
The result is what I’m sharing with you today. It’s the product of two years of “research” from YouTube, Pinterest, Craftsy, JOANN, Hobby Lobby and more. I invite you to take a peek at my journey, with all the joys and mishaps that happen along the way.
Why “First Day of Home”?
Those of you with little ones know that “the first day” (of just about everything) is a big deal. It’s thrilling, unpredictable, and even scary at times. That’s how I felt on my first day as a stay-at-home mom…like I was starting something different and worth celebrating. No more conference calls, spreadsheets or presentations. I now had two wide-eyed toddlers looking up at me and a very important job to do!
I decided to view my current gig as an opportunity to enrich my life, not mourn my earlier career. My hope is that you, too, will find inspiration here and discover your own hidden talents.
I’ll never claim I’m an expert on all the topics I cover. Still, I hope you’ll join me on the learning curve and treat each of YOUR days like it’s the first day of something big.
Special Thanks
My Hubby
I first need to thank my hubby for his ongoing support. What can I say about the man who swept me off my feet and is now my partner in painting and bedtime story-telling? He is the first person who lays eyes on my creations and fully supports my craft addictions.
We have harbored dreams of becoming Chip and Joanna Gaines for a while now. I think my hubby could actually renovate a house pretty well if he didn’t have a day job. If nothing else, it would be pretty entertaining to watch! Just check out his craftsmanship on this recent headboard tutorial.
My Boys
I also must thank the two little humans who changed my life four years ago. Having twins was overwhelming at first, but as my late abuelita used to say, “Two kids? No problem. One for each pocket!”
They keep me centered, and without a doubt, they inspire much of what I do on here. I love nothing more than creating something new and having them notice first. NOTHING gets by these kiddos. When they say, “Ooo, that’s bootiful, Mommy,” my heart just melts.
My Parents
Lastly, if it weren’t for my sweet parents, this blog wouldn’t exist. My mom has been my biggest supporter and has encouraged me (for a while now) to blog about my experiences raising twin boys. She’s right about one thing…there’s no shortage of comedic material with these guys. My mom was also Martha Stewart-ing long before that was a thing. She sparked my interest in floral design, sewing, and cooking, among other things.
My dad did his part by making me believe, perhaps naïvely, that I can do anything if I just put my mind to it. Plus, he gave me a meticulous streak that has served me well on many projects. In the cheering section of life, my parents are sitting in the front-row “splash zone.”
