Where to find buttons

If you’re like me, you probably have a button stash handy. Maybe you’re even a button hoarder. (Who knows where all these buttons came from in the first place?!)

Button crafts have become very popular in recent years, so you can also find collections of buttons online. Here are a few bundles I’ve purchased and highly recommend.

Tip: Plan Ahead

If you’re planning to make this craft with a school or church group, send out a request for buttons ahead of time or check local thrift stores for button collections.

I use this organizer box to separate my buttons and quickly find the colors I need. Once you’ve collected your buttons, grab the supplies and free template below to get started!

Printing Tips

  • Use cardstock to give your gift tags more weight.
  • Select the highest quality print setting.
  • Choose shrink to fit to make sure the tags are sized for your paper. The tags are designed for printing on US letter size paper, but you can also print on A4 if you adjust your printer settings.

Assembling the gift tags

Here’s the part where you get to use your imagination! I’ve provided templates, but it’s up to you to add the colorful button designs.

Adding dab of hot glue to gift tag

You can assemble your tags in three easy steps:

  1. Cut the gift tags
  2. Punch a hole in the top
  3. Glue the buttons on the tags

Before gluing the buttons, I suggest planning your button art to see how it looks. You can also address the gift tags on the back before applying the buttons.

Then, using either a hot glue gun or school glue, attach the buttons to the tag. You can add glitter, ribbon, or rhinestones as a finishing touch. I also used paint pens to add Frosty’s hat and the “string” for my Christmas lights. The sky’s the limit!

Let your designs dry completely before using them for your gift wrap. Enjoy!
