Easy DIY Starbucks Ornament
For all the coffee lovers out there, I have the perfect DIY Starbucks ornament to share! These mini coffee ornaments look like real lattes, with faux whipped cream, sprinkles, and even a gingerbread man or peppermint. They’re the perfect Christmas tree decor for coffee aficionados. How To Make DIY Mini Coffee Ornaments
These mini Starbucks coffee ornaments are the absolute cutest, but I’m definitely a sucker for anything mini-sized. Below, I’ll share the trick to making frosting that looks realistic and decorating the “lattes” with realistic sprinkles.
Rather than use real food for the sprinkles and frosting, we’re going to use some handy craft supplies.
The cups are often found at Dollar Tree or Walmart, but I’ve linked to all the supplies in my Amazon storefront for easy shopping.
Supplies
You’ll need small shot-glass cups and lightweight spackling for the frosting. The rest of the embellishments are up to you. Keep reading for details on how to get the cute “Merry and Bright” stickers.
- Small red cups
- Lightweight spackling
- Foam balls
- Faux sprinkles
- Candy peppermints
- Frosting piping set or small food storage bag
- Gingerbread man cookie cutters and polymer clay (optional)
- Cricut sticker sheets (optional)
- Small screw eye hooks
- Baker’s twine or string
- Hot glue or super glue
Step 1: Print and cut sticker labels (optional)

Get the Sticker Design
You will want to upload the PNG file to use Cricut’s Print Then Cut feature. You can then duplicate the image on your canvas to make as many ornament stickers as you’d like. The SVG file is also perfect for making holiday shirts or tote bags with iron-on vinyl.
Step 2: Cut and insert a styrofoam ball into the cup
Cut a styrofoam ball until it fits snugly inside the mini cup with just a small dome showing. Use hot glue to secure it to the cup.
Step 3: Add spackling over the styrofoam ball
Starting from the outer rim of the cup and working your way inward, apply spackling to the styrofoam ball with a piping bag or small food storage bag. You can experiment with frosting tips to see which shape you like.
If at first you don’t succeed, you have time to remove the spackling and try again. It took me several tries before I got the hang of it and liked the result.
Step 4: Embellish the cup with sprinkles and toppings
Lightweight spackling will dry to the touch in 15-30 minutes, so you have time to add faux sprinkles, peppermints, a straw, and other embellishments.
I always start by hot gluing a shortened paper straw into the foam underneath. Then, I like to add a peppermint charm or gingerbread man. I made my own gingerbread man out of polymer clay, which bakes quickly in the oven. You can always buy plastic gingerbread men if you don’t want to work with clay.
The final step is adding faux sprinkles. I found these non-edible clay sprinkles that come in a huge variety of shapes and colors. You can use them for shaker cards, slime, and other crafts, too.
Pro Tip
Gently press the faux sprinkles into the spackling to ensure they will stick after drying.
Step 5: Add a screw eye hook for hanging
If you plan to display your Starbucks coffee ornament on a tree, be sure to add a small screw eye hook. You can insert it while the spackling is still wet, but you might need to reinforce it later with hot glue.
Then you can loop some baker’s twine through the hook to hang your finished mini Starbucks coffee ornament.
