There’s nothing more refreshing on a hot summer day than this easy lavender lemonade recipe with a hint of mint! It’s the perfect combination of citrus and sweetness with a balanced flavor that will delight the taste buds.

Benefits of Lavender

As I mentioned in my lavender heating pad tutorial, lavender has wonderful health benefits. It’s the perfect remedy for insomnia, anxiety, and potentially many other ailments.

Culinary lavender (generally English lavender) is a member of the mint family, so it’s perfect for cooking all types of dishes. In fact, this recipe calls for adding just a few sprigs of mint for good measure.

Ingesting culinary lavender helps alleviate stress and may increase your intake of certain vitamins. It sounds like the perfect ingredient for a summer drink to me!

Lavender Lemonade Recipe Notes

As with any lemonade recipe, you can vary the amount of sugar and lemons to achieve your desired level of lip pucker.😉 Meyer lemons (my favorite!) will offer a less acidic and more floral flavor.

Here are a few other tips to keep in mind…

Tip #1: Use lavender sparingly.

As with rosemary, a little bit of lavender goes a long way, especially if using dried flowers. You don’t want your lemonade tasting like perfume, right?

With the particular dried lavender flowers and quantities I used for this recipe, your lemonade will turn out perfectly infused with hints of lavender without raising any eyebrows.

Tip: For cooking, a good rule of thumb is 1/3 dried lavender to fresh lavender flowers.

Tip #2: Only use culinary lavender.

You should never use lavender that has been treated with pesticides or comes from a florist or nursery. Nor should you ingest lavender essential oil, which is toxic when swallowed.

The most common form of edible lavender is English lavender, which is prized for its sweetness and subtle citrus tones.

I have used this culinary lavender product many times over the years. It also works well for making other crafts like lavender heating pads and lavender sugar scrub.

Tip #3: Let the lavender buds steep longer or add more buds for a stronger flavor.

If you find the lavender simple syrup lacks flavor, try steeping your lavender buds for a longer period of time. I steep mine for about 1 hour before I strain the mixture, which gives only subtle hints of lavender when combined with the lemonade.

Alternatively, you can add 3 tablespoons of dried lavender buds instead of 2.

Serving Suggestions

This lavender lemonade recipe is the perfect addition to a mimosa bar or as a cocktail (or mocktail) when hosting a bridal shower or baby shower.

When serving your special drink, consider whether you will add ice, which will dilute your lemonade as it melts. Adding a slice of lemon along with mint or lavender sprigs makes for a beautiful presentation.

Keep some lavender simple syrup on hand as a mixer for cocktails if you’re hosting a grown-up party. Your guests will love it!

Simple Lavender Lemonade Recipe

This lavender lemonade recipe is cool and refreshing and has health benefits, too! It's the perfect beverage to relax by the pool or host guests at a baby shower or bridal shower.

  • 6 cups water (divided)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons dried lavender
  • ¾ cup fresh lemon juice (about 7 lemons)
  • 8-10 mint leaves (optional)


Lavender Simple Syrup

  • Bring 2 cups of water to boil. Remove from heat and pour over sugar. Stir until dissolved.
  • Stir in dried lavender buds and let steep for at least 1 hour (or up to 2 hours for stronger flavor).

  • Combine juice from lemons and lavender simple syrup in a pitcher.

  • Add the remaining 4 cups of water and stir well.
  • Optional: Add 8-10 leaves of fresh mint and let sit overnight for added flavor.
  • Garnish with sprigs of lavender, mint and lemon slices.

Meyer lemons offer a sweeter more floral flavor compared to regular lemons and may have less acidity and tartness.
You may choose to add blue or purple food coloring to create a festive drink for parties and other special events.
The lavender simple syrup may also be used for mixed drinks to create unique cocktails.

  1. how much simple syrup does this typically make? I actually have some lavender simple syrup already that I can use instead of making my own but I want to make sure I’m adding the right amount!

    1. Hi there! My recipe makes 2 cups because you’re steeping the lavender in 2 cups of water (with dissolved sugar) before adding the additional water and lemon.
