Spring Table Decor: A Pinterest Challenge

If you’re a “regular” around here, you already know all about the monthly Pinterest Challenge hosted by Cindy at County Road 407!

If you’re new here, let me explain. Have you ever seen a gorgeous photo on Pinterest and dreamed about recreating the look at home? Now you’re all caught up!

Cindy hosts this fun decorating exercise each month to keep our styling skills sharp. It also gives you, the reader, a chance to see many different decorating styles and get inspired.

If you’ve hopped over from Amber at Follow the Yellow Brick Home, I’m sure your brain is already spilling over with lovely ideas to get your home decked out for spring. Amber is SO talented!

Now let’s begin with the inspiration…

Birdhouse Spring Table Decorations

This month’s photo challenge comes from Doreen at Hymns and Verses. Doreen’s birdhouse tablescape for spring is packed with charm and sweet bird-themed accents.

That adorable vintage wren print also comes as a free download on Doreen’s site. That alone is worth a visit, if you ask me!

Since the point of the challenge is to pay homage without mimicking too closely, I decided to focus on three common elements in my own tablescape.

  • Birdhouse (of course!)
  • Bird’s eggs
  • Touch of pastel blue

Birdhouse Table Accent

The birdhouse in the Pinterest Challenge photo is definitely the star of the show. Luckily, I just completed a tutorial for DIY birdhouse plans!

(Perhaps I subconsciously knew this challenge was around the corner?)

Funny enough, I completed this birdhouse when we had a major freeze roll through the area. I’ve never felt so cold working in the garage!

Since most of our flowering plants suffered severe damage during “snowmageddon,” I opted for faux florals to complement my birdhouse.

These days, many stores sell faux flowers that make nice substitutes for the real deal. I won’t tell if you won’t!

Bird’s Eggs

Since the original photo had a bird’s nest, I decided to include my rustic set of eggs that look freshly plucked from the nest.

I bought this little “nest” at one of my favorite local home decor spots. I think I paid extra to get the real feather thrown in!

In another nod to Doreen’s bird’s nest, I found these woven placemats that added the perfect amount of contrast to my place setting.

We received the leaf napkin rings as part of our wedding registry. I think they add another springy touch to the table, don’t you?

Pastel Blues and Pinks

While the inspiration tablescape included mostly shades of blue, I decided to add some pastel pink to the mix given the dark blue shade of my dining room walls.

The touches of aqua in the small votive candles pair nicely with the accent bird on the birdhouse.

In my Easter table decor a few years ago, I included a variety of spring colors using bunnies and a long floral garland. I think this simplified look with a soft color palette really speaks to me this year, though.

What are your plans to decorate for spring this year? Do you have a Pinterest photo that inspires you too?
