Outer Space Theme Ideas

For preschoolers, I like to stick with the basics for a space theme birthday. The coolest outer space party will include at least some of the following:

  • Astronauts
  • Space ships, shuttles or rockets
  • Planets or solar system
  • Stars
  • Moon
  • Earth
  • Sun
  • Milky Way or galaxy
  • Friendly aliens

For the color scheme, primary colors like red, blue, and yellow work well. As I explain in my Free Party Planning Printables, starting with a color palette makes planning a ton easier.

Space Invitations

There are many free space designs available for online birthday party invitations. Etsy also offers customizable and downloadable options for invitations.

Check out my favorite picks below! (Click images to shop.)

Outer Space Party Supplies

I searched all over for the perfect space-themed party supplies. Fortunately, I found plenty of space party bundles, including paper plates, napkins, cups, and utensils. I’m sharing some of my favorites below.

I also love the packages below that come with space-themed frosting sheets, a rocket ship banner, galaxy balloons, and an awesome cupcake stand.

If you prefer a reusable cupcake stand, I highly recommend the one below that I purchased recently. It collapses for easy storage when not in use. Love it!

Space Cakes and Cupcakes

Let me tell you, in the battle between sheet cakes and cupcakes, cupcakes win! It makes serving kids such a breeze!

Plus, I’m now offering free printable cupcake toppers that you can download and print at home. See the end of this post for details.

Space Themed Food Ideas and Snacks

You can further incorporate a space theme into your party by adding a space-related name to your food and beverages or having space shaped party snacks.

Here are a few ideas to get you started:

Party Favors for a Space Theme Birthday

For party favors, I used blue paper sacks from a recent Transportation Birthday Party. I chose to download space SVG files to cut out rocket shapes for our treat bags using my Silhouette Cameo.

Favor bags for space themed birthday party

To fill my favor bags, I used a combination of outer space-themed stickers, stamps, and snacks (favorites shown below).

Space Theme Preschool Activities

I got excited about designing a game my pre-school boys could enjoy beyond the party. They’ve tested this Outer Space Bingo Game, and it gets their seal of approval! These also make great party favors.

See the end of this post to download your free Outer Space Bingo printables, including calling cards and game boards.

Note: I used a laminator for my bingo game boards to allow kids to reuse the templates with dry-erase markers. You may also use coins, beans, or tokens to mark spaces on the boards.
