I’m combining my love of pressed flowers with wax seals to add a finishing touch to my holiday gifts this year. I hope this quick tutorial will inspire you to do the same.

Once you start playing with wax seals, you’ll look for excuses to use them. With the kit I bought, it’s easy to add wax seals to everything from gift tags to decorative boxes and greeting cards.

The Best Wax Seal Stamps

In this gift-wrapping technique, wax seals are the star of the show.

I’ve always loved the look of wax seals, but the idea of melting wax sticks over a candle and dripping the wax onto stationery…well, that sounded like something best saved for wedding invitations.

I recommend starting with an easy wax seal kit like the one above. It has everything you need, including a heat gun and trendy wax colors.

You can also buy additional wax seal stamps on Amazon or from specialty retailers like Artisaire. I’ll link to some of my favorites below.

What You’ll Need

Again, I highly recommend starting with this kit, since it has a silicone mold, wax sticks, and stickers to create seals for future use. It also includes metallic markers and glitter to add embellishments to your wax seals.

How to Prepare Your Gift Wrap

I suggest starting with a simple jewelry box wrapped in ribbon. A double-sided tape roller can help secure the ribbon before applying your wax seal.

In my shop, I sell a pillow box pattern you can make with Cricut. In the example below, I wove ribbon through a coordinating gift tag before adding pressed flowers and fern stems in the center.

These pillow boxes are perfect for wrapping small items like gloves, gift cards, and other stocking stuffers. The best part is that you can use your scrapbook paper stash to whip one up in minutes.

Where to Find Pressed Flowers

I’m often asked how to press flowers or where to find high-quality pressed flowers.

I’m partial to pressing my stems using my DIY flower press, but you can also get beautiful collections of flowers online now. Below are some of my favorites.

Best Pressed Flower Collections

To add pressed flowers to your gift wrap, place 1-3 small stems in the center of your box. Then apply the wax seal to keep the flowers in place.

It’s as simple as heating the wax gun with your preferred wax color and squeezing a small dollop of wax directly onto your package.

Then, immediately press your wax seal stamp into the wax. After holding the stamp for 15-20 seconds, gently lift it to reveal your seal.

Tips for Using Wax Seals

It takes a little practice to get comfortable using wax seals. Here are some easy tips to follow.

  1. Generally, you’ll need 2-4 pumps of wax when using a heat gun.
  2. Since the wax stamp kit has a silicone mold, you can do a few practice runs to get a feel for this craft. Use the mold to build up an inventory of wax seals for future use with gift tags or stationery.
  3. Add a double-sided sticker to the back of a pre-made wax seal and place it on an envelope for an extra special touch.
  4. Protect a wax seal by keeping it out of direct sunlight.
  5. When mailing letters with wax seals, place an outer envelope around your card and cover it with a thick piece of cardstock.
